Why Locksmiths charge so much?

Why Locksmiths charge so much?

I quite often get asked the question why do locksmiths charge so much, as most of the time they are only with a customer for a few moments and charge really high prices. Admittedly this can be true, however it is important that you know that a locksmith is the only trade where everything works against them, by this I mean that locks and doors are not meant to be opened unless you have the correct key to open them. Although we have various tools and methods to open certain locks and doors this is not full proof nor is it guaranteed to work.

Our high costs are mainly due to the extensive training that we have to do and the tools we need to buy, most new locks now days are by design built to be secure and protecting your property from unauthorised access, they have features such as anti drill, anti snap, anti pull, anti bump, anti pick, they also have trap pins, slider pins, pin in pins and even lockdown mode to name but a few protection methods incorporated in your lock, and as a locksmith we have to be able to identify this all by sight all within a few moments at your door then use are extensive knowledge and think of the best way in which we can get you back into your property without any damage.

We are in our own right experts in our field and if we can open your door in a few moments without any damage, then you know you have a good locksmith who is trained well.

There are also bad locksmiths out there that tarnish our industry’s good name, they will take full advantage of you being locked out and will rip you off, they generally have no training and arrive at your door with a drill in hand, avoid these people at all costs, don’t get me wrong there are times when even a good locksmith will use a drill but this will be a last resort only and will again use their extensive knowledge as not all locks can be drilled out for various reasons.

Prices will vary from one locksmith to another as an emergency 24/7 locksmith will charge more than a 9-5 general locksmith, and don’t be too disappointed if a locksmith is unable to help you and walk away from the job as they may not have had the training to open your particular lock or door.

Reviews

Before ringing a locksmith check out their reviews on Google and Trustpilot and make sure that they are 5* rated, and if you are happy with the work they have done for you then please go out of your way and leave them a good review as well, as this will help other people like yourselves in need to make sure they get a good locksmith too.

Finally, any good locksmith worth their salt will tell you over the phone how much they will charge you before they come out, provided that you have given them the correct information.
