DIY HELP!
I recently received a call from what appeared to be some student tenants, seeking a quote for a lock replacement. Often, when a customer says 'I'll let you know,' it means they're either seeking a cheaper option or planning a DIY attempt. In this case, it was the latter. They purchased a new lock for £75 from a local DIY store and bravely attempted the installation themselves, armed with just a screwdriver, drill, and an angle grinder.
A couple of hours later, I received the inevitable call back for a rescue mission. Unfortunately, the extent of the DIY effort meant I couldn't salvage their work. I had to supply and fit an entirely new lock, despite their commendable effort to 'have a go.' This incident serves as a clear reminder that while DIY can be tempting, attempting complex lock installations without the right tools or expertise often leads to greater expense and frustration in the long run.
